*extremely Snoop Dogg voice* Greetings, loved ones.

You may have heard us talking about (read: definitely heard us talking about) Skillshare recently on our IG stories, and we’re here today with a more in-depth look at some of our favorite classes, teachers, and topics that will help you learn new skills to your heart’s content.

But first, what is Skillshare? Basically, Skillshare is a website that houses some of the world’s top professionals in all trades (Design! Business! Marketing! Photography!), who have pre-recorded classes for us less-skilled people to watch and learn from. The best part about these classes (besides the fact that you can get a free premium trial with THIS link!!) Is that they’re pre-recorded, so you can learn at your own pace. Gone are the days of having to sit in a freezing cold classroom at 9am every Monday morning just to listen to your stats teacher drone on about the probability of 8 cars driving at the exact same speed on the I-15. With Skillshare, you can learn what you want when you want.

Now, I don’t know about you, but when I’m learning about things that I’m actually interested in, I’m 100x more likely to pay attention and actually get something out of the lecture. Which is why we’ve gathered some of our favorite classes down below for you to check out!

  1. Digital Illustration for All: Discover, Cultivate and Share Your Unique Personal Style with Laci Jordan

In this class by Laci Jordan, you learn how to find your own voice in the art world and create work that reflects that. Laci shows her process for finding inspiration, adding fun detail to work, and sharing that work with the world. This is a must-watch class for anyone just starting out their art journey and wanting to create work that screams “you”!

  1.  Mixed Media Illustration: Create a Self-Portrait with Watercolor, Gouache & More with Maria-Ines Gul

One of my goals for the new year (okay, fine, every year) is to get better at painting, which is why I love this class by Maria-Ines. This is a great class for anyone wanting to refine their painting skills, specifically faces. Maria-Ines shows how to create expressive, bright faces out of a variety of mediums, as well as gives tips for layering paint and adding fine detail back in.

  1. Instagram-Worthy Photography: Shoot, Edit & Share with Brandon Woelfel

I’m sure if you’ve been on Instagram at all you’ve seen Brandon’s incredible photography. Not to be dramatic, but every time one of his photos lands on my feed I gasp. It’s just ~that good. In  this class Brandon walks viewers through his process for creating concepts, shooting Instagram-worthy shots, and editing those shots to pull out bright colors and scenes.

  1. Social Media for the Creative Entrepreneur: Exposure, Tips, and Pros & Cons with Peggy Dean

All my friends who are trying to launch their creative careers on social media please Stand UP! Social media can be so useful for building up an audience, but it’s hard learning all the ins and outs of platforms. In this class Peggy offers her ample expertise in learning the algorithm, sharing content, using hashtags, and specific yeses and no’s to building your creative empire online.

  1. Logotype Masterclass with Jessica Hische

If you’re not up to date with all the happenings in the world of design, may I introduce you to Jessica Hische, the design world’s 21st century Michelangelo. Not only is Jessica insanely cool, she’s also extremely talented and is kind enough to share that talent with us mere mortals. In this class Jessica walks through her process of creating logos for some of the world’s largest clients, from concept to completion. This class is great for the slightly more seasoned designer (if you’re not familiar with Illustrator I’d suggest learning the basics first), and by the end of the lessons you’ll be feeling more secure and ready to take on your next logo client.
